In his painting The Lone Tenement, 1909, George Bellows focused on the abandoned old tenement building under the nearly complete Blackwell Island Bridge in New York (Now known as the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge or 59th St. Bridge) recording the displacement of the immigrant residents to make way for the future. This piece includes a part of that painting and a piece of rubble from under that bridge, suspended on a gravity defying platform.
