In the 19th Century, Niagara Falls was considered the nation’s greatest natural wonder and a symbol of vigor and promise. Niagara, 1857, by Frederic Edwin Church views the falls from the Canadian side. The painting was so successful it was featured in a one-painting exhibition. More than 100,000 viewers paid 25 cents to witness the grandeur. The vials contain water collected from the Niagara River.
