Based on Gilbert Stuart's Landsdowne portrait of George Washington, 1796, this piece focuses on the fragments of symbolism drawn from both American and ancient Rome, including the hilted dress sword, the Noah's Ark inkwell suggesting a new beginning, and the foundational books of the emerging democracy indicating the rule of law.
